BHAGAVAN ADI SANKARA ACHARYA OF KALADI; Part-9

BHAGAVAN ADI SANKARA ACHARYA OF KALADI

Sri Sankara Jayanthi comes every year on Vaisajha Suddha Panchami day; this year it comes on May—19—2010. On this occasion I publish his horoscope analysis in 9 parts.

Important events in Sankaracharya’s life : (1) Sankara lost his father when he was of 6 years. This occurred in his Rahu period and Mercury sub-period. Rahu the lord of main period is in 2nd house (maaraka-sthana) from the Sun (indicator of father; pithru-kaaraka). Mercury is the lord of sub-period and owns the 7th house (Virgo) from the 9th house (Pisces), the pithru-sthana (house of father). Also Mercury is in 2nd house, Aires (maaraka-sthana; death-causing house) from Pisces, the 9th house (pithru-sthana). Rahu and Mercury are dwir-dwadasa (2nd house to 12th house).

2) Sankara’s mother got his Upanayanam (initiation to education) in the same year; she sent him to gurkul school for education. This occurred in the same Rahu period and Mercury sub-period under the same directional (drik-prabhaava) influence of Rahu and Mercury. Mercury aspects (7th drushti) the 4th house (Libra) Vidya-sthana (house of education) and ensured he is initiated to education.

3) Sankara was a prodigy; and he got everything by heart and deep into his memory when he heard any topic once only. So competed mastering all the four Vedas and all other scriptures just in thirty lunar months. Generally an intelligent person takes thirty years to learn them all. He completed all his learning during the sub-period of Venus (main-period of Rahu). Rahu is in Taurus (lord is Venus); so Rahu gives the results of Venus. Venus is also the lord of 4th house (Libra), the house of education. Venus is conjunct with Mercury, the bestower of intellect. So Sankara reaches a stage of a teacher (Professor, Acharya) in all branches of learning capable of conferring learning and education. Sankara is declared as a very proficient Acharya soon by all his gurus (teachers) when he was nine years of age. 4) Rahu is in Taurus (the constellation of Moon) and in 12th house from Moon (Rasi-lagna). Ketu is moksha (salvation) / renunciation karaka (significator). Moon is in 12th house (house of renunciation) from the birth-lagna (cancer). Ketu aspects (7th drushti) Taurus (12th house from Rasi / Chandra lagna) and Rahu therein. Ketu occupies Scorpio, the constellation of Saturn. Saturn in turn aspects (7th drushti) the Moon and the 12th house (Gemini) from birth-lagna. All these factors help Sankara to obtain Sanyasa-deeksha (initiation to asceticism) during the fag end of Ketu sub-period in Rahu period.

The chronological order of events in the life of Sankara are not known clearly. 5) So one can assume that Sankara completed his training in advanced philosophy under the guidance of famous and widely revered (Guruji) Govinda Bhagavadpada (who stayed in his ashram on the banks of river Narmada) before Sankara competed his Rahu main period (before his 15 years of age). Rahu is in Taurus (lord is Venus); so Rahu goves the results of Venus , lord of (Libra) the 4th house (house of education). So all his education and training are completed by the end of Rahu period and Govinda Bhagavadpaada initiated Sankara to the Parama-hamsa (Super sanyasi) order.

6) The main period of Jupiter is a very significant, fruitful and successful period in the life of Sankara Acharya. (i) Jupiter is Jnana-kaataka ( bestower of knowledge and wisdom) and is the lord of Pisces, the 9th house {(dharma-sthana and trikona (trines)}. So he is beneficial (with adhpatya-bala). (ii) Jupiter also aspects (5th drushti) the lagna-lord and the Rasi (Moon; significator of mind) lagna. (iii) Jupiter also aspects (7th drushti) the 2nd house (Leo) vaak-sthana (house of speech). (iv) Jupiter also aspects (9th drushti) the 4th house (Libra), house of acquisitions and properties, in this case, intellectual and philosophical acquisitions. (v) Jupiter occupies a constellation of Mars in Sagittarius. Mars is top-rate yoga-kaaraka and is in Pisces, 9th house (dharma-sthana) owned by Jupiter. All the benefits of yoga-kaaraka (highly beneficial) Mars have showered profuse benefits and blessings on Sankara during the main period of Jupiter. 7) During the main period of Jupiter, and during the sub-periods of Jupiter, Saturn and Mercury (7 years period), Sankara stayed in an ashram on the banks of river Ganga in Varanasi. He visited daily Bhagavan Visweswara and Bhagavthi Annapoorna temples and did abhishekams and poojas to the deities. During that period he wrote commentaries on all the principal Upanishads, the Bhagad-Gita and the Brahma Suthras in Sanskrit verses (slokas). Occasionally, he visited Badarinath.

8) During the same period and under the planetary influence of Jupiter, Mars. Saturn and Mercury, Sankara met and had animated discussions with some of the most famous and learned scholars of his time. It is alleged that even Bhagavan Veda Vyasa (he is chiranjeevi like Bhagavan Hanuman), reputed author of Brahma Suthras, once visited Sankara’s ashram abode in Varanasi as a pretty old man on one occasion. Vyasa Bhagavan spent a few days at his ashram as a guest and entered into a disputation with Sankara for a few days. Finally he blessed Sankara and left satisfied and happy.

9) During the 3 years period of Venus sub-period during the main-period of Jupiter, Sankar-acharya toured the entire country. He is doing ascetic rodes, but he enjoyed all the paraphernalia of royalty during this tour period. The kings and emperors of various kingdoms worshiped Sankara as an embodiment of Bhagavan Siva and provided him as their devotional offering all this paraphernalia, without his asking, in recognition of his learning and authority. All these beneficial results of royal pomp and grandeur are the blessings of Jupiter (occupying the constellation of yoga-kaaraka Mars).

10) During the main period of Jupiter and during the sub-period of Mars Sankara’s mother died, This is the most pathetic event of his life. Mars aspects (4th drushti) Moon (mathru-kaaraka; significator of mother) and also the mathru-sthana (Libra; the house of mother), the 4th house (8th drushti). Jupiter (the lord of main period) occupies the constellation of Mars. All these malefic effects caused her death during Mars sub-period.

11) Sankara reaches 32 years of age. Saturn main period and sub-period of Saturn starts. Then Sankara attained Nirvana / Moksha (salvation) voluntarily. He did not use his divine powers to stop his death. Saturn is the lord of 7th house (Capricorn), a maaraka-sthana (death causing house) from birth-lagna, He occupies the 7th house from Rasi-lagna (Moon). So he is a powerful maraaka and caused his death. Actually it is said Sri Sankara took leave of his disciples saying that he is going to relinquish his life soon and walked onto open Himalaya mountains and disappeared. His body was never found. So some of his devotees tell he walked direct to Kailasa (the abode of Bhagavan Siva) and got united with Parameswara.

Adi Sankara has Parivrajaka yoga (Ascetic): Rule :- Ekaraasi sthithaithu chathradhibhi birbalyuthair jahaah, pruthaghviryagauh shakya ajeevika bhikshu vurdha chakra nirgandha vanaysanaha; mahye jnaya guru kshapakara sita prabhankareenau kramaath balibhi samah; parijithai sthastha swamibhihi prachyuthaihi= When there are four or more planets in one house, the person born may become an ascetic (sanyasi) of one of these types; Sakya, Aajivaka, Bhikshu, Vridha, Chakra, Nigandha or Vanayasana, when Mahaya, Gnya, Guru, Kshapakara, Sita, Prabandhakari, or Ina are powerful respectively. The parivrajaka yogas are determined by the most powerful planets. When these planets have suffered a defeat, the person will renounce the Parivraja (ascetic life) afterwards.

The following strong planets in conjunction can produce the varieties of Parivrajaka yoga:

1) Powerful Mars : Sankhya : one who wears red-clothes. (2) Powerful Mercury : Aajivika – one who bears eakadanda or single staff (about 5 to 6 feet). (3) Powerful Jupiter : Bikshu : one who wears kaashaya or saffron colured (yellowish-rose) garments. (4) Powerful Moon : Kapaalika : one who moves about with a skull in his hand and practices occult tanthric yogas. (5) Powerful Venus : Chakra – one who carried a chakra (wheal) or ring. (6) Powerful Saturn : Nirgrantha : one who moves in nude form. Powerful Sun : Vanyasana : one who lives on roots, herbs, bulbs available in forests.

Adi Sankra has three poerful planets Sun, Mercury and Venus in his 10th house. He is not an ordinary Sanyasi. He is a Maha Jnaani (with perfect divine wisdom and spiritual realization) and an incarnation of Bhagavan Sankara. He was a special super-class Sanyasi by himself; he was a Bikshu in villages, he was a Vanyasana in forests; he wore saffron clothes and a staff with a saffron-flag indicating that he is ready for a fierce argument on philosophy and religion) with any scholar who refuses / resists to surrender to Adi Sankara and become his disciple (Sishya).

My own Belief :- I am a devotee of Adi Sankaracharya and believe him to be a direct avatar (incarnation of Bhagavan Sri Sankara), just as Bhagavan Vamana (Emperor Bali’s liberator) was the direct incarnation (avatar) of Bhagavan Sri Maha Vishnu. These enabled his monumental work of about 15 years has so profoundly influenced the religious, philosophical intellectual and cultural thoughts of millions of enlightened people all over the world during the past twenty centuries. He revived Hindusim from the onslaught of Buddhist monks and scholars. His horoscope has some unique features. They are :

(1) Lagna (Cancer) lord Moon is in the Moksha-sthana (12th house; ripha) and is aspected both by the lord of 7th house (Capricorn), Saturn (7th drushti) and by the lord of 9th house (Pisces), Jupiter (5th drushti). The mal-effects caused by the aspects of malefics Mars and Saturn on Moon is neutralized by the highly beneficial aspect of Jupiter on Moon.

(2) Sun (Atma-kaaraka; Soul indicator) is exalted in 10th house (Karma-sthana; profession-indicator) and is conjunct with Mercury (Budhi-kaaraka; indicator of intelligence) and Venus (lord of 4th house) (house of acquisitions, here divine knowledge and wisdom). (3) The 4th house, Libra (Kendra; Sri Narayana sthana) has combined aspect of five planets; Sun, Mercury and Venus (7th drushti), Mars (8th druhsti) and Jupiter (9th drushti).

(4) Saturn (indicator of philosophy) is in Sagittarius (house of Jupiter). Jupiter is Jnana-kaaraka and is also the lord of 9th house (Pisces; Sri Maha Lakshmi sthana),the dharma-sthana. This resulted in Sankara’s unflinching logic made him the supra-rational and led him to Victory in every religious argument he had with eminent scholars and masters of different faiths. He is the Saint of saints. He lived with radiant joy. (concluded)
