Sri RAJEEV GANDHI. I I analyse the raja-yogams in the horoscope of Sri Rajeev Gandhi, (Prime Minister of India during 1985--1991 ) period. He was the grandson of Sri Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minster of India (till 1964). He was the eldest son of Smt. Indira Gandhi, the world-renowned lady-politician and very powerful administrator and Prime Minister of India till her death (Oct--1984). He came to power by inheritance.

This is the natal chart of Sri Rajeev Gandhi; Leo is his birth lagnam, Aarudha-lagnam as well as birth raasi or Indu-lagnam. Mahā-rājayogas in this horoscope are explained hereunder : Maharshi (saint-astrologer) Parasara (of 3,300 years before Christ) in his immortal work Bruhat Parasara described the rules for the occurance of maha-raja-yogas in a horoscope.
1) Parāsara’s Dictum: Aātmakārakaputrābhyām yogamekam prakalpayet |
tanupaňcamanāthābhyām tathaiva dvijasattama || 4||
Meaning: A relationship between the ātmakāraka and putrakāraka or between the lords of the lagna and fifth house constitutes a maha-rājayoga.
The Sun is the significator of the first house and is exalted in the first house of the natural zodiac in Aries, the only royal sign. He is the lord of Leo the fifth house of the zodiac, which is also its mūla-trikona (pertaining to highest office / ruler). Thus, a relationship (yoga) between the lords of the first and fifth houses or their temporal significators (carakāraka) constitutes a rājayoga and the person shall be very rich, a billionaire Parāsara’s Dictums: Lagneśe paňcame bhāve paňcameśe ca lagne |
putrātmakārakau vipra lagne ca paňcame sthita || 6||
svocce svamśe svabhe vā’pi śubhagrahanirīkśito |
mahārājākhyayogo’tra jātah khyātah sukhānvitah || 7||
Meaning: If there is (a) an exchange between the lagna and fifth lords each occupying the others sign and (b) the atmakaraka and putrakaraka are in the first or the fifth house and (c) in exaltation, own sign, in own navāmśa or in the signs or navāmśa of benefic planets, then mahā-rājayoga results. The person shall be very rich This yoga bestowed name, fame, high position of a ruler (Prime Minister) and happiness to Sri Rajeev Gandhi. Also he was blessed with two worthy and renowned children. In this chart the lord of birth lagna is Sun; the lord of 5th house (Sagittarius) is Jupiter; both are conjunct in birth lagna; this is maha-raja-yoga. Also, the Atma-kaaraka Mercury and the Puthra-kaaraka Jupiter are also conjunct in birth lagna; this is also a maha-rja-yoga. So the rule (dictum) enunciated by Maharshi Parasara applied to this chart completely. The Maha-raja-yoga mentioned in the above slokams (Sanskrit verses) applied to his horoscope completely. So he enjoyed royal power, name, fame, huge riches and royal comforts all his life, till his death.
