I already published over 480 articles (one a day) on various topics of Vedic Astrology in my blog starting from June-1-2008. I got many thousands of e-mail expressing their appreciation of my articles and the blog. I trust the contents of my blog are very useful to amateur astrologers, who desire to master the subject. I publish the Horoscope Analysis of Bhagavan Gautama Buddha in a serial order in nine parts starting from Sept—8—2009.

Gautama Buddha was one of the greatest saints produced in India to spread human values and reform the practices like casteism, other superstitious practices in Hinduism prevalent in his period. He called Dharma (right behaviour). Later it got shaped into a separate religion “Buddhism”. He is adored by millions of people all over the Asian Nations as supreme God.

Horoscope analysis – Gautama Buddha

Part – 8 Sept—16--2009

5) Moon is a planet which rules the mind (buddhi-karaka). Moon is full and is lagna-lord. He was aspected by five planets. The 7th drushti (aspect) of Saturn was the strongest on Moon. Mars was in his own house (Mesha) znd so was benefic. Saturn was debilitated in Mesha. Paapa grahe neechasthe, su-yogadaha (Jaimini Suthra) = A malefic planet (here Saturn) in debilitation gives beneficial results. So the conjunction of Mars and Saturn and their joint aspect (drushti) on Moon were harmless. Moon’s peculiar position with all these special characteristics bestowed him patience and perseverance of constant reflection. He was absorbed in deep contemplation over the true purpose of life and over the causes for miseries and mishaps in common man’s life. He was seeking mentally to find remedies for these miseries and mental agony suffered by people. 6) Venus was separated away from (malefic) Mars (angular separation is about 20*); Venus was in close proximity to benefic Jupiter (angular separation is about 5*). So these beneficial features protected Siddhartha from indulgence and sensuous pleasures (typical to ordinary princes). He led a life of austerity and sober in his enjoyments. 7) Sani (Saturn) was the lord of 7th house (Makara; Kalathra-sthana). Sani was debilitated in Mesha. Kuja (Mars; a malefic) was in close proximity to Sani (their angular separation is only 2*). Due to these malefic effects Siddhartha could not derive much pleasure in the company of his wife Yasodara, though she was noble, good natured and amiable to him. 8) Moon is significator of mind; he was in constellation of Visakha; its ruler was Guru (Jipiter; a divine planet). In Nava-amsa Moon was in Mesha whose lord was Kuja (Mars). These gave him an iron-will, and an unshakable determination; he also imbibed the quality of undiscouraged action. His firm resoluteness to find the purpose of life enabled him to undertake severe ascetic penance for over six years. He finally got revelation and enlightenment. Siddhartha became Bhagavan Budhha (the Enlightened Soul) . 9) Buddha had Parivrajaka yoga (Ascetic): Ekaraasi sthithaithu chathradhibhi birbalyuthair jahaah, pruthaghviryagauh shakya ajeevika bhikshu vurdha chakra nirgandha vanaysanaha; mahye jnaya guru kshapakara sita prabhankareenau kramaath balibhi samah; parijithai sthastha swamibhihi prachyuthaihi= When there are four or more planets in one house, the person born may become an ascetic (sanyasi) of one of these types; Sakya, Aajivaka, Bhikshu, Vridha, Chakra, Nigandha or Vanayasana, when Mahaya, Gnya, Guru, Kshapakara, Sita, Prabandhakari, or Ina are powerful respectively. The parivrajaka yogas are determined by the most powerful planets. When these planets have suffered a defeat, the person will renounce the Parivraja (ascetic life) afterwards.

He also has strong Parivraja (Ascetic yoga). Karma-sthanethu, chathvaro graha sthishtanthi che thathaa Parvrajaka yoga praapthi; ithi nischayaah (Jataka Marthandam) = If 4 or more planets occupy the 10th house (Karma sthana; profession) the person becomes an Ascetic.

Gautama Buddha had five planets in Karma-sthana (10th house; Rajya-sthana). Saturn was debilitated and stayed in 10th house; also Sani, the lord of 7th house for familiy life (Makara) was aspecting Moon. So he renounced his family life and took Sanyasa-deeksha (oath of asceticism). The powerful Kuja (Mars) in his own house (Mesha) with Saturn in 10th house caused Buddha to become a Sakya sanyasi, who wore saffron (red hue) coloured robes. (to be continued tomorrow).
