RAJA YOGAMS IN VEDIC ASTROLOGY.
I would publish a series of articles (at least 50 or more) on Raja Yogas in Vedic Astrology with suitable illustrations using birth charts. I start this series on Jan—1—2009. RAJA YOGAMS IN VEDIC ASTROLOGY.
Part—1 (Jan—1—2009)
Any Raja-yoga (beneficial yoga), like the conjunct of lords of 9th and 10th , or Gaja-Kesari yoga can be enjoyed by the person, only when any one of these yoga-karaka dasas (beneficial periods) occurs in the prime of his / her life (say between 18 & 60 years), the person can enjoy the raja-yogam fully. If the yoga-karaka dasa (period) occurs in childhood (before 18 years or in old age (after 65 years), the person can not enjoy fully the benefits of raja-yogam. Also the birth lagnam and its lord must be strong. Also the planets involved in yogam must be well-disposed, strong and devoid of malefic effects like dagdha (combusted), neecha (debilitated) or in malefic houses like 3,6,8, and or 12; they should not be conjunct with or (seen) aspected by malefic planets. Then only the Raja-yogams give beneficial results. Otherwise, the yogam is spoiled and wasted.
Lakshmi-sthaanam thrikonancha; Vishnu-sthaanancha kendraaha.
thayo sambandha mathrena , Raja-yoga adhiakam, bhaveth !
1,5,9 houses from birth lagnam (ascendant) are called trikonams (tridents); 1,4,7,10 houses from birth lagam are called kendrams (quadrants); if the lords of trikonam and kendram are conjunct in same beneficial house, the person is blessed with Raja-yogam; if these lords exchange their places also in good houses, they give many benefits, the person gets longevity, health, wealth, happiness, name and fame.
9th house in konams and 10th house in Kendrams are best houses; if lords of 9th and 10th houses are conjunct in same house, and there are no malefic effects associated, the person enjoys Raja-yogam.

This is chart of a famous Maha Raja (king) who ruled a kingdom in south India during 1850—1890 period. Scorpio is lagnam. Moon is the lord of Cancer (9th house; konam); Sun is the lord of Leo (10th house; kendram). They are in conjunct in 7th house (Taurus; kendram); and there are no malefic effects. Moon is exalted in Taurus. Venus is exalted in konam (5th house). Mars is in his own house in lagnam (Ruchaka yoga: ruler, brave, arrogant, the victor. So this chart has Akhanda (uninterrupted) Raja-yogam. When such conjunction occurs, any of these two planets should not have, in addition, lordship of 8th (Randhra) or 11th (labha) houses. Or the lord of 8th or 11th should not conjunct with these yoga-karaka planets; lord of 8th house is much more malefic than lord of 11th house. If such a planet conjuncts, in addition, the person is poor.
