Rule 13 of Veemkavi is applicable to this chart. Lord of the 4^th house (Leo) is Sun; he is a natural malefic and is in the 10^th Bhava. Lord of the 2^nd house (Gemini) is Mercury is conjunct with Jupiter. Mercury occupies Sagittarius (the house of Jupiter in Nava Amsa chart). He is aspected by Jupiter (9^th drushti). A powerful Raja yoga is caused by the conjunction of Sun and Mercury and Jupiter in 10^th house. This yoga bestowed him good reputation and south India-wide influence and respect and patronage from the then King of Karnataka (Mysore). He was respected as an authority on Astrology. His predictions were wonderfully accurate. He was also a scholar in Indian Science and history. There is a powerful Parivarthana (Exchange of houses) yoga between Mercury (lord of 2^nd house, Gemini) and Saturn (lord of 9^th and 10^th houses, Capricorn and Aquarius). Saturn was yoga-karaka (the best benefic) for birth-lagna Taurus. He was in 2^nd house (Dhana sthana; wealth). This enabled him to earn considerable wealth. But the malefic nature of Saturn made him to spend the entire wealth for good purposes and he saved very little. A peculiar feature of this horoscope is that the Sun and Saturn, though mutually inimical by nature, have joined hands in elevating Sri Surya Narayana Rao to his pre-eminent status. Note that the Sun is lord of the 5^th house (Leo) from the Moon (Rasi-lagna) in Rasi chart and lord of the 5^th house (Leo) from birth-lagna in Nava Amsa chart. Sun occupies the house of Saturn (Aquarius) and Saturn is in the 2^nd house from ASC (lagna). Sun, Venus and Mars are all asociated with the Moon in Amsa (D9) chart. No wonder, therefore, that Prof Rao received the blessings of Sun in full measure which accounted for his success in astrology. I remember to have read in one of his books that Prof. Rao’s father when he was childless had a dream one night when the Sun‐God appeared and blessed him with a child, as a result of which he was named after the Sun as Surya Narayana Rao. Mercury and Jupiter are conjuct in 1oth house (Kendra; Sri Narayana sthana) from the Lagna in Rasi while Jupiter occupies Lagna in Nava Amsa chart and Mercury is in 9^th house (Kona;trine; Sri Lakshmi sthana) from Lagna. These made Prof. Rao a great and prolific writer and he about 70 books not only on astrology but also on other subjects. Jupiter is strong by position which accounts for his versatility in Mantra Shastra also. Saturn in the 2^nd house and is aspected by Venus (7^th drushti) from the 8^th Bhava gave Prof Rao success in his predictions to an amazing degree of accuracy and Rahu in the 11^th house from the 2^nd house evoked for him appreciation even from the Britishers and other Westerners.
