Expert astrologers say it is correct to examine the raja-yoga aspect counting the planet’s position mainly from aarduha lagna; but generally birth-lagna is taken as reference point. If benefics and malefics are conjunct in the same house and are in 3,6,8,12 houses from lagna; and in kendram (1,4,7,10), or konam (1,5,9) from aarudha-lagna, then the periods of these planets yield beneficial (raja-yoga) results from the beginning of the dasa. If the planets are in in kendram (1,4,7,10) or konam (1,5,9) both from lagnam and from aarudha-lagna, then the periods of those planets give Maha-raja-yoga (excellent beneficial results) from the beginning of the dasa (period).

In the chart of Sri Sundar, Rahu is in aarudha-lagnam; he is in 9th house (konam) from lagnam. So Sundar enjoyed Raja-yoga for 18 years in Rahu Mahadasa period from the beginning; then he enjoyed a high level position as a District Revenue Officer and enjoyed authority, power and income and respect.(vahana (car), mudhra-adhikaram=ruling authority). He earned about three lakhs of rupees worth of lands and house properties (it was a huge amount in that time) during that period (1915-33). 5 planets are in 3rd house from Lagna; they are in 7th house (Kendra; Sri Naryana sthana) from aarudha-lagna (AL, Leo); they are in 2nd house (Dhana) from Indu-;lagna (Capricorn).
